AMD will in June its new mobile platform called Puma introduce. The Puma platform is built around the 65nm Turion Ultra processor (code name Griffin), essentially a cross between the K8 and K10 architecture. The Turion Ultra has the cores of the K8 architecture, but the energy efficiency savings and Hypertransport 3.0 of the K10 architecture (Barcelona / Agena processors) borrowed.
The chipset used (780M, with a RS780M northbridge and SB700 southbridge) has an integrated graphics core largely leentjebuur has played in the desktop 780G chipset (which, in turn, as well as a whole consists of a chip HD2400). The expectation is that the Puma platform for a decent IGP chipset graphics performance goes down.
The Puma platform will probably not Centrino 2 (built around the 45nm Penryn) “killer”. This applies to both in terms of performance and battery life. Nevertheless, the platform enough computing power at home to have no difference to note with everyday tasks such as mail and listen to music, says Fudzilla. The main thrust of the new platform compared to Intel’s platform will in particular the price. Notebooks around the Puma platform from the end of June.
